Celebrant (feat. Seonaid Stevenson): Vital Parts - 29 May 2026

Tom's band celebrant will release their second single 'Vital Parts' in May. A collaboration with poet and singer Seonaid Stevenson - Tom's longtime collaborative partner in Urvanovic - the single will be released via Danish label Movement Shaped Like a Heart.

About

Tom Irvine is a Scottish composer, songwriter, and arranger working across multiple genres and disciplines. Now based in Copenhagen after completing a masters in Rhythmic Composition at Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium in Aarhus, his work includes original music and arrangements for pop and rock bands, classical ensembles, theatre, and film.

Coming from a mixed background of both classical and rhythmic music, Tom’s main focus is on exploring the boundaries between genres, and in effectively bringing together elements from both worlds, specialising in classical instrumentation and orchestration in non-classical contexts.

Tom was chosen to represent Scotland as a featured composer at the 2024 ISCM World New Music Days festival in the Faroe Islands with his orchestral work Cardboard (performed by Lapland Chamber Orchestra). He has recently premiered a new piece for Absalon String Quartet in Copenhagen, and made orchestrations for Odense Symphony Orchestra’s 2025 ‘Juleshow’ with soloist Mathilde Falch. Other recent projects include string arrangements for award-winning kora-player Dawda Jobarteh, as well as ongoing writing and performing with his ‘indie-folk-meets-classical’ ensemble Celebrant, who recently released their debut single Feral Gods.

Tom has recently returned to Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium on the Soloist (Advanced Postgraduate Diploma) programme.

Music

Arranging & Orchestration

Much of my work is in arrangements for pop, rock and other non-classical music, for example string quartet embellishments on recordings, and additional instrumentation such as orchestra or big band parts for concerts and collaborative projects. I have worked with a diverse range of ensembles, from string quartet to full symphony orchestra, and I have experience with many different styles and instrumentations. Composition & Songwriting

My main focus is of course writing, and the majority of my own music is centred around song structures and lyrics, often in combination with classically influenced arrangements and orchestration. I do this mostly through my 'solo' project, 'Celebrant' (f.k.a. The Open-Source Orchestra), and through my Scotland-based band Urvanovic. However, I also frequently compose for classical musicians and ensembles, with my recent projects including a new piece for Copenhagen's Absalon String Quartet, and an orchestral work for Lapland Chamber Orchestra.
